PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Construction Manager of a state-of-the-art 10MW Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) to replace an end-of-life, 40-year-old existing system that supplies backup power to the Empire State Plaza (ESP). The intent of the project is to provide a robust, reliable, and fully integrated system that will enable key personnel to remotely manage the critical power infrastructure throughout the ESP during an emergency event effectively. The emergency power generation system will have a total operating capacity of 10MW with provisions to add 2.5MW in the future. Downstream upgrades include 175 new ATSs and ASTS. The project includes over 3 miles of new conduit and wiring systems.
The project will be completed in two phases:
Phase 1:
Demolition of an existing building and construction of a new building to house the new generator plant, as well as the installation of generators and associated switchgear.
Phase 2:
Upgrades and replacements of emergency system components throughout the fourteen substations on the ESP campus, including 237 new ATS and ASTS.
